Commiphora Myrrha (syn. Commiphora Molmol) is a tree of the Burseraceae family native to the Arabian peninsula, central-eastern Africa and India.

Myrrh is a very aromatic gum resin with notes of colour ranging from deep amber to brownish red, derived from the air-hardened sap of the Commiphora Myrrha, which spontaneously seeps from cracks in the bark or incisions made in it.

Known since ancient times owing to its properties, over the course of history Myrrh has been used in numerous ways, the most important of which in the medicine of ancient peoples. Precious properties that we are rediscovering.

The main constituents of the essential oil taken from Myrrh are various types of Furano-sesquiterpene.

The characteristic constituents of the resin are a-, b- and g-commiphoric acid, a- and b-heerabomyrrhols, heerabo- resene and burseracin [7,8]; also various terpenes [Mincione 1972; Zhu 2001; Shen 2009; Su 2009; Xu 2011a, Xu 2011b] and a sesquiterpene lactone, commipheroline [Mincione 1972].
